Learning To Let Go
May 21, 2009
Some of you know I recently lost my grandmother. We called her “Big Mama”. I had just walked into Jazz Fest, proud of myself for hanging in there…..on what would be the busiest day of the Fest.
My sister called me. I thought she was sick. She was not. She was calling us all to let us know Big Mama had passed. And that’s all I remember, besides surreal moments of hearing Deacon John sing “Many Rivers To Cross” and chords of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” from Aaron Neville as I surrendered and left for Mississippi. Not before being accosted by a man who said I would look prettier if I smiled……boy did I let him have it…nicely, but I don’t think he’ll say that anytime soon to a woman.
Why did I aimlessly walk around Jazz Fest for 2 hours after learning the news? I don’t know. I just thought if there was any place I could be that would cheer me up, it would be somewhere surrounded by music…..that didn’t work.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers and I’ll talk to you soon.
Working on letting go and being happy because Big Mama got her promotion. It will take time…It will take time.
Here’s the melody some of you requested. I hope you enjoy it some more

Monica,
Your grandmother was an amazing woman. She will be missed. Now its our turn to become the elders (okay our parents…lol). Love the music…send me the melody. Peace and Blessings.

Monica..
I am, as I have expressed to you, very sorry to hear of your lost. Your Grandmother indeed had that “Vibrant” look as you mentioned
My grandmother is around the same age as your “Big Mama”, Grannie turned 87 this past March .. So please know, that I can definitely understand how much this “Beautiful Lady” meant to you and your family.

Monica. Thanks for sharing the gift of your grandmother with me. I really enjoyed the pictures of your grandmother. She looks like someone I would have like to have known.
I like the song. Very smooth, tranquil, peaceful.
I don’t know what listening party is, but let me know. I’ll try to hook you up with some peeps in San Diego too.
I’ll call you next week about our walk
Peace out.
You have my heart felt sympathy. It is never easy departing with a love one. I know from experience. A great deal of healing comes, by keeping their memories alive. Keep sharing your memories, of the way she were with friends, and family. She may be gone in body, but not in spirit. Monica, God is your strength. Hold on. Send me the Song. Will get back to you on the listening party. Got to ask my Hubby?
I love the melody Monica.. Beautiful!

I am sorry for your loss. I spoke to Jaz today and asked her if she heard from you. Great melody. Great work! I’m proud of you. Hang in there. My prayers are with you.

I love the pictures of your Big Mama. I’m sure you had some wonderful times with her. Please forgive me for not expressing my sympathy sooner. I pray your burdens will become lighter with each new day.
